30 local children from 6 different schools throughout Aberdeen were tasked to design and build a complex, large scale chain reaction ‘machine’ commonly called a ‘Rube Goldberg Machine’. They designed and created the machine only using material available to them, sourced from local charity shops, scrap yards and building merchants.
The Creative Dynamic project aimed to enhance ‘employability skills’ such as problem solving, creative thinking and group working. As such, we created a theme based around the 6 simple machines of engineering; Pulley, Lever, Wedge, Wheel & Axle, Inclined Plane and Screw, which had to be incorporated into the build.
The finished machine was presented on stage as part of Aberdeen’s Creative Learning Festival at the AECC in front of 1,000 people
